At Oak Grove, our goal is to challenge our students without exasperating them.

Delight and Wonder

While we maintain rigorous academic standards for our students, we also strive to foster joy in their learning through connecting classroom efforts with hands-on activities, real-life experiences,  and special academic events. A classical education should not be rigid or dull, but full of life! We want our children to not only learn, but to love learning. Throughout the year, our students participate in many special events that cultivate delight in our students and help them focus on that which is true, good, and beautiful.

English Expo

During English Expo, we take a whole day to revel in, celebrate, and dance with words. While each year is unique, we include many things that set the day apart at Oak Grove.

English Expo always kicks off with our character parade, where our students are encouraged to dress like various characters from their literature or history studies. Inside our Grammar classrooms, teachers embrace the love of words and language, with unique and exciting plans that enhance and celebrate the beauty of the Logos. Logic and Rhetoric school students engage in playful and some serious competition, bringing their knowledge and skills (and creativity!) to the table.  Competitions are based on the progymnasmata  - ancient writing and reading exercises that were meant to not only sharpen writing and speaking skills, but (more importantly) train the affections of their souls.

Each year, activities center around a theme. Past years themes have included La Féria, Heroes and Martyrs, Myths and Legends: Journeys of Friends and Strangers and Shakespeare: What is Past is Prologue.

Christmas Program

Our annual Christmas Program celebrates the birth of Jesus through a showcase of Oak Grove’s Fine Arts Programs.

One of the highlights of our school year is our annual Christmas program. The entire school and community come together to worship the Lord and celebrate His advent through the gift of performing arts. Students from Pre-K to 12th bless the audience with a variety of musical and artistic performances.

"O Come Let Us Adore Him"

Science Day

On Science Day, we stop to consider the glory of God through His creation by studying Math and Science related events.

Science Day is an opportunity for Logic and Rhetoric students to present their Science fair projects, which they spend the entire fall semester developing and refining, to a panel of judges. They also participate in Science Olympiad-type activities. Grammar students participate in hands on learning through a variety of stations and experiments.

Past Science Days have included the study of prosthetics, circuits and electricity, CPR and first aid training, The Science of Cars, and presentations by “Science Girl." We've also been visited by the APD Bomb Squad for a demonstration, had stations led by the staff at Explora and even some BioPark animals in our midst!

“For His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.” -Romans 1:20

Field Day

Oak Grove Field Day is a day when we delight in the gift God has given us as we seek excellence for His glory in many physical fitness activities.

Oak Grove Classical Academy's field day is a fun filled day spent with the students challenging themselves and each other to complete various field day activities such as the long jump, potato sack run, obstacle course, and everyone's favorite, the annual Tug of War Challenge! School spirit is at an all-time high as logic and rhetoric students come dressed in colors representing their grade. Competitions take place against other Houses in many different events, which often include sand volleyball, kickball, and a scavenger hunt.

"And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith" -Hebrews 12:1-2
