Classical Education:
Classical Education is a centuries old methodology aimed at forming young minds through the emphasis of language and mathematics. The aim of Classical Education is to equip students with the “tools” of learning teaching them how to think and be life-long learners. This approach focuses on the modeling of virtue, the maturing of the intellect, and the ability to powerfully express oneself to others. Latin is unapologetically incorporated beginning in the 3rd grade. There are many benefits to studying Latin, including a greater knowledge and appreciation for our English language, and ease of studying other languages, a greater appreciation for classical literature, and higher SAT scores.
Christ-Centered:
Initium Sapientia Timor Domini: “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord” (Proverbs 1:7). At Oak Grove, we believe that a great education not only gives students the tools of learning but also inspires them to pursue the One in which all Truth is found; namely the Lord Jesus Christ as revealed through the Bible. Because all learning is premised on a defined worldview, Oak Grove seeks to present language, history, science and the arts as tools through which we learn more of God’s character and His design of our world.
University-Model School:
The University-Model provides a framework to partner with parents in their God-given responsibility to teach their children spiritually and academically. We use a university-style schedule, allowing us to blend the most positive aspects from both traditional and homeschool models. The partnership between home and school provides parents the time, curricular flexibility, and academic expertise to achieve an excellent education, while also investing in character and family relationships.
Cultivation of Delight and Wonder:
Our goal is to challenge our students without exasperating them. While we will maintain rigorous academic standards for our students, we will foster joy in learning through connecting their classroom efforts with hands-on activities, real-life experiences, field trips, and special academic events. We want our children to not only learn, but to love learning!
